Calculating
system requirements
Each metre of transparent tube has an internal volume
of 0.66 litres and an internal surface area of 0.1 square metres.
The BioFence is expandable in blocks of 16 x 5 m tubes i.e.53 litres.
A light to dark ratio of at least 50% is recommended so the tank size
required is the same as or greater than the internal tube volume so the
total system volume is 100 litres per block of 16 tubes
In summer daylight conditions you will harvest about 1/3rd of the total
system volume of algae per day, that is 33 litres for each block. Typical
concentrations achieved in the BioFence compared to bag or fibre glass
tube culture are given below.

Calculate the volume of a particular species that
you currently achieve and use the table to calculate the volume of
BioFence strength algae required. For example a current daily
requirement of 4000 litres of chlorella per day is equivalent to 200
litres of BioFence strength algae per day which means a total system size
of 600 litres i.e. 6 x 16 x 5m tubes.
