LIVE SALTWATER ROTIFER CYSTS L-TYPE

Saltwater L Strain Rotifer Cysts, supplied in the UK by Varicon Aqua, provide a clean, reliable and convenient way to initiate marine rotifer cultures on demand. Each vial contains approximately 15,000–20,000 laboratory-cultured resting cysts that can be stored frozen for extended periods and hatched as required.

Once activated, the cysts produce L strain rotifers measuring approximately 130–340 microns, making them well suited for early larval stages and species requiring smaller live feed sizes. Easy to store, simple to hatch and quick to establish, L Strain Rotifer Cysts offer a practical and biosecure inoculant for hatcheries, research facilities and marine culture systems.

Saltwater L Strain Rotifer Cysts consist of dormant Brachionus manjavacas produced under controlled laboratory conditions to ensure consistency, cleanliness and predictable performance. Their resting cyst form allows hatcheries to initiate new rotifer cultures without maintaining continuous live stocks, reducing labour, contamination risk and system downtime.

For hatching, cysts are hydrated in a shallow layer of seawater and maintained under low, continuous illumination. Under suitable conditions, hatching typically begins within 24–36 hours, with active reproduction commencing approximately 18 hours after emergence. Culture development and population growth are influenced by temperature, feeding regime and water quality.

The resulting L strain rotifers are smaller than many commonly used strains, making them particularly valuable for delicate larvae and species with limited mouth gape. Over time, strain size can be further managed through routine culture practices such as gentle sieving and selective harvesting.

Saltwater L Strain Rotifer Cysts provide a flexible, biosecure and efficient starting point for marine rotifer production, supporting larval rearing programmes, broodstock systems and research applications where reliable live feed availability is critical.
