Tetraselmis CULTURE PLATE contains motile Tetraselmis cells grown under controlled laboratory conditions to ensure purity, viability and consistent performance. Typical cell sizes range from 10–14 microns, providing an appropriate particle size for efficient ingestion by a range of larval and juvenile organisms.
The culture is supplied in a sealed petri-dish format that allows long-term storage at normal cool room temperatures. To initiate a culture, sterile culture water is added to the plate and the cells are gently released before transfer into a small starter volume. With suitable fertilisation, aeration and light exposure, cultures typically reach a usable density within 7–10 days and can then be expanded into larger systems.
Tetraselmis is highly adaptable and capable of growth in both freshwater and marine environments, with optimal performance typically achieved at salinities between 18–30 ppt. Its motility and nutritional profile support strong feeding responses, making it well suited for use in rotifer, Artemia, bivalve and larval crustacean culture.
